
Théophile Legrand International Award For Textile Innovation
Competition Regulations 2011
Article 1 – Purpose
At the initiative of the Théophile Legrand Foundation – Institut de France created in 2007 by Christian Cambier who is the descendant of the one considered as the « father » of the development of the textile industry in Fourmies, two prizes will be awarded each year. They will reward two individuals, able to create tomorrow’s textile, for their original design in the area of technical textile: fabric or fibre, innovative combinations of materials or new industrial production techniques.
It is an international competition, open to all researchers, PhD or MSc Students, and is sponsored by « Clubtex », the “Ecomusée de l’avesnois” (Fourmies’ Textile and Social life Museum) and the most prestigious textile engineering schools : « Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries Textiles de Roubaix », « Ecole des Hautes Etudes d’Ingénieur de Lille », « Institut Technique et Chimique de Lyon » and « Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Ingénieurs Sud Alsace ». Applicants can present their researches even if they are in way of achievement. Its goal is to favour innovation, research, creativity, while highlighting both the technical / industrial and mechanical features intrinsic to the textile industry.
Article 2 – Selection Criteria
To be eligible, applications should highlight the following:
- Creativity
- Innovation
- Industrial application
A prototype can be presented during the awards ceremony.
Article 3 - Application
Applications should be either in French or in English, and must be sent by August 7, 2011 to e-mail : theophile-legrand@hotmail.fr

Application should contain :
- application letter
- detailed résumé of applicant
- presentation and summary of achieved work and/or research projects (5pages max.)
-if applicable, a bibliography of published documents on achieved projects (reports, articles, books, etc)

Article 4 – Jury
Winners will be selected by a jury composed of Foundation Representatives, Clubtex, the Ecomusée de l’avesnois and experts in textile innovation and research.
Article 5 – Decision
Participation implies acceptance of these rules, as well as understanding of the selection criteria as they are presented in Article 2.
The jury’s verdict is irrevocable.
Article 6 - Awards
1st Price - 10 000 € will be awarded by the Foundation.
2nd Price - 8 000 € will be awarded by the Foundation.
Each candidate must confirm his attendance of the Awards ceremony in Trélon. The winners will be authorised to claim his or her award, which is intended for the promotion of their project, after the awards ceremony on saturday, october 1th at 4:30 PM, in the auditorium of the Bol Vert in Trélon (59 - France). They will have to agree to mention, on all communications (in any form) about their project, “Lauréat de la Fondation Théophile Legrand – Institut de France”, for the duration of two years.
Article 7 – Awards Ceremony
Awards for 2011 will be given on saturday, october 1th at 4:30 PM, in the auditorium of the Bol Vert in Trélon (59 - France). During the ceremony, winners will have to present their project.
Article 8 – Press Coverage
Candidates guarantee the accuracy of their results and might have to produce evidence. There may be media coverage of the competition; particularly in the written press. Winners hereby authorise the Théophile Legrand Foundation – Institut de France to release the progress and results of their project. They will need to provide a specific list of elements and / or documents they wish to keep confidential.
